DOGS

Regular examination is important for early detection of problems. It also reassures you to know your pet is healthy. Correct health care of the younger dog can yield benefits in later life.

Vaccination: is one of the most effective proven methods of protecting your pet against problems such as leptosporosis, distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and kennel cough

Dental care: the proper care of your pet's teeth is just as important as your own and we advise proper dental and preventative care. We are able to carry out ultrasonic cleaning, polishing, tooth extraction and oral surgery.

Neutering: neutering is carried out to prevent unwanted breeding and alleviate certain disease problems. It can be done from 6 months of age.

Behaviour: we are frequently asked for behavioural advice and are happy to provide this, if we cannot help we can arrange referral to a behavioural specialist.

Parasites: fleas, mites, lice, worms, mange, ticks. You name it, they can catch it!

DISORDERS OF THE BODY SYSTEMS

These pages have been provided for those who wish to research their pets disorder. Do not use them to attempt diagnosis or treatment yourself, all unwell animals must be seen by a veterinary surgeon. The information provided is not comprehensive and is still under construction so many conditions are not listed. Other equally good methods of diagnosis or treatment may be recommended by your own vet.

  • Endocrine: This is the system which regulates hormonal function within the body.
  • Pancreas: the pancreas is an organ within the abdomen which secretes digestive enzymes into the gut and produces hormones such as insulin.
  • Skin: Skin disorders are extremely common in dogs but skin changes may also reflect disease processes within other body systems
  • Urinary: the urinary system involves the kidneys and bladder and mainly suffers from disorders of these two organs.
  • Liver: the liver carries out many functions within the body including; storage and filtration of blood, production of bile, breakdown of noxious substances, metabolism of the products of food digestion, and production of blood proteins.
  • Lungs: the lungs are the organ of gas exchange, allowing oxygen to be collected by the blood and carbon dioxide released to the atmosphere.
